ERPSF.ORG 2007 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS




Laurencia Trujillo
will graduate from El Reno High School, May 2007. She will graduate with a 3.6 GPA. While in high school, Laurencia has been a member of National Honor Society, National Technical Honors Society, Oklahoma Honor Society, Renaissance Student 2003-2007, National Who's Who in American High School Students, Club Scrub member, and member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). During her junior year, she became certified as a Nursing Assistant and has worked at a Nursing Home as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Now she is working to complete a course in becoming an Advanced Unlicensed Assistant. With this license she will be able to work at any Integris Hospital in the state of Oklahoma. While in high school, Laurencia has been involved in Handwashing at El Reno Public Schools, Habitat for Humanity, Oklahoma Blood Institute, and public health screenings through Lion's Club at EHS.

Laurencia's dream has always been to become a Registered Nurse. She has been accepted to attend the University of Oklahoma for Fall 2007 and will continue her education to become a Registered Nurse. While in high school, she has been concurrently enrolled in Redlands Community College.

Houston Cantrell graduated from El Reno High School in 2002 with an unweighted 3.9 GPA. After high school Houston attended and graduated from Oklahoma University in 2006 with a 3.75 GPA. Her major was a BA in Letters with a minor in History. Houston has now completed her first year of reading law at Oklahoma City University's College of Law. After graduation she plans to enter into the service of the United States military and hopefully serve as a Judge Advocate General.

While at OU, Houston was active in Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, serving as president in 2005. She was also a member of Classics and Letters Society, Phi Beta Kappa, College Republicans, and Pre-Law Club.

While at EHS, she was a member of Key Club, Masque and Gavel, National Honor Society, recieved letters in volleyball and track, Student Council, and Math and Science Club.

Travis Tate graduated from EHS in 2004 with a 3.6 unweighted GPA. He is currently a first year graduate student in a four year Pharm. D. Program, School of Pharmacy, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Weatherford, Oklahoma.

While in high school, he was a member of National Honor Scoiety, and a six time “A” Renaissance honoree. He played saxophone in the EHS band and was an active member of the youth group at Heaston Community Church.

Before he entered school as SWOSU, Travis worked at Canadian Valley Pharmacy and an interest in pharmacy was sparked. After only 2 years of pre-requisite studies, he applied and was accepted in this highly competitive Doctor of Pharmacy program. He continues to work 15 hours per week as an intern an Canadian Valley Pharmacy while maintaining a 3.58 GPA.

Sierra Branch graduated from EHS in 2005 with 3.6 GPA. She will graduate with an associates degree from Redlands Community College and plans to attend SWOSU in the fall, majoring in Occupational Therapy. She has been volunteering with Special Olympics, and a camp sponsored by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. While in school she has held two parttime jobs, one at TVC and office manager for El Reno Supply.

While in high school she was a member of Key Club, Healthy and Fit Club, Drama Club and played girls basketball. While at Redlands has served as a Student Ambassador for two years. She has been a member of International Order of the Rainbow Organization for six years.


Laurencia Trujillo and Houston will each receive $4000 scholarships and Travis and Sierra will each receive $2000 scholarships. Funds for these scholarships were made possible by the El Reno Public School Foundation endowments furnished from the estates of Wilbur and Jean Gardner, both long time residents of El Reno.
